Monsoon Rainstorm Update: August 20th.

A summer monsoon hit the mountains near Lake Hemet on the afternoon of Friday, August 17 sending a good sized flow of water, ash and a few burned logs from the recent Cranston Fire down Hurkey Creek and into Lake Hemet. In most cases these monsoon storms require little clean up, but because of ash on the mountain slopes, we had more cleanup than usual and our thanks go out to the Lake Hemet Water District crews worked quickly clearing roads inside the campground. A few group campsites are out of commission temporarily and there are areas of mud and ash along the creek. The Lake Hemet Campground, store and all roads in the area are open. However, winds can move these areas of floating ash on the surface of the lake, so as a precaution,  the waterpark and lake boating will be closed until water conditions are completely safe to reopen. We think that boating and the water park may re-open this Thursday but  please check back with us for updates if you are planning to visit Lake Hemet for water activities.

The campground, store and all roads within the campground are open to campers. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we continue to monitor lake conditions to ensure guest safety at Lake Hemet.

Lake Hemet is surrounded by the majestic beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains, in Mountain Center, near the mountain town of Idyllwild. The scenery is breathtaking no matter which direction you look. Tall pines, manzanita trees, sage, and giant oaks abound.

Lake Hemet is one of the most popular spots in Southern California for camping and fishing. The recent additions of the Soaring Pines Cafe serving delicious food and Splashing Eagle Waterpark has made Lake Hemet the vacation spot to be during the spring and summer months.

Remember to pack a camera and binoculars, and keep a watchful eye, as majestic eagles, hawks, and other wildlife are often seen soaring throughout the forest and campground. Come and enjoy camping, fishing, boating and the breath-taking scenery all year round.

Fun Fact: Halle Berry said she celebrated her birthday here. The whole Kardashian and Jenner clan filmed an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians at Lake Hemet. Classic shows such as Airwolf and Bonanza also had episodes filmed at Lake Hemet.

Note: Swimming is allowed in designated areas only.  The speed limit is 10mph for both boating and driving in the campground. No fireworks allowed. Fireworks are not permitted.

handiHandicapped restrooms and showers are available in Camps 1, 2, and 4. Upon request, special assistance can be given to handicapped persons.
