Trout Stocking Update: Lightning Trout, Rainbows & Trophy Rainbows Totalling Over 2000 Pounds!

Trout stocking continued with a major fish plant of over 2000 pounds on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Lake Hemet. Check out the video here! This plant included plenty of trophy Rainbows in the 3-8 pound range and was the first ever stocking of the famous “Lightning Trout” species from the Mt. Lassen Trout Hatchery into Lake Hemet!

For those unfamiliar with Lightning Trout … these Rainbow Trout are golden in color with a bright red stripe down their sides and a bright red gill plate. They look like neon lights shooting through the water and their meat resembles that of a salmon. They are truly a beautiful, great fighting and great eating trout.

Spring like conditions with sunny days and chilly nights are the current weather pattern now at Lake Hemet … and with seasonal crowds gone, we have plenty of great lakeside campsites and toasty warm cabins and rental units available to take advantage of this great winter weather.

Lake Hemet is surrounded by the majestic beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains, in Mountain Center, near the mountain town of Idyllwild. The scenery is breathtaking no matter which direction you look. Tall pines, manzanita trees, sage, and giant oaks abound.

Lake Hemet is one of the most popular spots in Southern California for camping and fishing. The recent additions of the Soaring Pines Cafe serving delicious food and Splashing Eagle Waterpark has made Lake Hemet the vacation spot to be at during the spring and summer months.

Remember to pack a camera and binoculars, and keep a watchful eye as majestic eagles, hawks, and other wildlife are often seen soaring throughout the forest and campground. Come and enjoy camping, fishing, boating and the breath-taking scenery all year round.

Fun Facts: Halle Berry said she celebrated her birthday here. The whole Kardashian and Jenner clan filmed an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians at Lake Hemet. Most recently, Kim took her daughter, North, for her first camping experience at Lake Hemet. Classic shows such as Airwolf and Bonanza also had episodes filmed at Lake Hemet.

Note:  The speed limit is 10mph for both boating and driving in the campground. We are a no body contact lake and swimming/body contact is not permitted. Please visit the Splashing Eagle Waterpark for more information in regards to lake access in the summer months.   Fireworks are not permitted.

handiHandicapped restrooms and showers are available in Camps 1, 2, and 4. Upon request, special assistance can be given to handicapped persons.
